The Residence at 635 E. Hopkins
The Residence at
635 E. Hopkins
Aspen, CO
Completed Q1 2014
The Residence was built in 1885 by Julius Berg during the building boom of Aspen’s mining era. Berg was the town’s first confectioner, and it is said that his cow took up residence in its own custom-built shed located on the site.
Austin Lawrence Partners were approached in 2010 because of our experience and reputation within Aspen and its commissions. The restoration and redevelopment were completed in February 2014. The total square footage of the two residences is 6,800 square feet. The exterior modifications made in the ’70s and ’80s were removed, and a 5,000-square-foot new addition was added as a contemporary complement to the miner’s cottage. The cow shed continues to hold its place as a part of Aspen’s history and as a wing on the new addition.
